This course explains the step-by-step process of creating a new family of an AV product for use in your design projects.
We’ll start with a simple rack panel, using extrusions to model the panel, then move on to the techniques for creating more complex models of devices such as loudspeakers.

We’ll start with a simple rack panel, using extrusions to model the panel, then move on to the techniques for creating more complex models of devices such as loudspeakers.
We’ll add dynamic elements such as stretch, arrays, rotations, and more to create feature rich families that speed up project design, then dive into Detail Families for creating 2D drawings such as block diagrams.
We’ll create assembly families that host multiple nested families of products, parts, etc. with flexible selection options for any given application in a project.
Finally, we’ll dive into Detail Families that can be speed up the creation of 2D drawings such as block diagrams.
Those who score 80% or higher on the final exam will receive a successful completion certificate which you can use to get (10) CTS Renewal Units and 2.75 Cedia CEUs.
Prerequisites: The “Revit for AV” training course is recommended, but not required. While we do explain how to use various tools in Revit, it is not intended to be fundamental “Revit” training. Some experience using Revit to design systems in a project is required.
Course Outline
✅ Creating a model of a device from scratch using extrusion and void extrusion tools in the Family editor.
✅ Adding information parameters for use in project Schedules
✅ Adding dynamic elements such as stretch, array, and rotation parameters for manipulating the device in a project and using reference planes and reference lines.
✅ Techniques for modeling complex shapes such as loudspeakers and mounts.
✅ Creating assembly families by nesting multiple families of parts with selectable options for any given instance in a project.
✅ Creating Detail families for creating block diagrams.

Jerrold Stevens, creator of the “Revit for AV Systems” is currently an Associate Principal and Director of AV Systems at Marsh/PMK International, LLC. Like many in the professional audio industry, Jerrold started as a musician, working in a music store selling instruments and PA gear. There he learned the fundamentals of sound reinforcement system design through on-the-job training, SynAudCon courses, and numerous other seminars and classes.
Jerrold’s career path has taken him through years of design/build work as a contractor, a few years working as an independent manufacturer’s rep, Director of Support and Education for EAW, and finally as an audio/video systems design consultant. His work includes the design and commissioning of audio and video systems for a variety of projects including performing arts venues, houses of worship, resort hotels and casinos, arenas, stadiums, and more such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Chesapeake Energy Arena in OKC, Caesar’s Palace, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, and other casino resorts in Las Vegas and across the country.
How long will it take me to compete this course?
There is a total of 6 hours of online instruction. It varies greatly. It depends on the your familiarity with Revit and the principles of sound system design.
Here is a brief layout of the course.
Revit for AV Systems consists 19 lessons.
The last lesson is the final exam. It has 60 questions. With a passing score, you will receive a certificate of completion.
You will have 3 opportunities to pass the final exam. We consider 80% as the passing score.
Is there a time limit on watching the online training?
You will have 45 days to complete the course. The 45-day clock begins on the day that the course key is activated. If you need more time, no problem. Brenda will gladly extend it for you.
SynAudCon will send you reminders of your expiration date.
Can I use Revit LT or do I have to get the full version of Revit?
You can do this in LT. There are a few relevant limitations: Can’t use 3rd party Add-Ins, high res Rendering not supported, can’t import/export PDFs. A full comparison is at this link:

Will I receive a certificate?
Of course. After passing the final exam, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you within one business day.

Great class. My only suggestion is similar to one from the previous class, whenever you make a change to the drawing and you don’t show it on the video, take a brief moment to explain what you did. When steps are not included on the video, it sometimes takes a few minutes to pause, reverse, and try to figure out what you did. P.P.
Please keep these classes coming! Revit is so powerful, but some of the concepts are still so foreign coming from a long-time CAD perspective. This class has really opened my eyes to improving my own family library and completing the ones I couldn’t figure out. W.H.
