Google Sketchup continues to gain popularity as a universal room model generator. The efficiency and power of this architectural program can make modeling so fast that you won’t consider not doing it. Sketchup is to room modeling what Ethernet is to digital audio – a borrowed technology that works for what audio people must do.

This month I will describe how to build a wrap-around balcony for a fan-shaped room with only a few mouse clicks. Remember that much of Sketchup’s power lies in the modal properties of its tools. Take some time to work through their on-line tutorials to get familiar with these.
