The recent Syn-Aud-Con Digital class held in Atlanta, Georgia was complimented with a technical AV tour of nearby 12 Stones Church. The class visited the campus the day after its grand opening. This brand new state-of-the-art campus features five performance spaces ranging in size from 200 – 2500 seats.
The tour, led by Mike Hedden and Ivan Beaver from Danley Sound Labs, focused on the 2500 seat auditorium. The large auditorium is somewhat unique in that it has a 270 degree seating area. A LARES all digital fully modular acoustical enhancement system was installed to compliment the LCR matrix house system. Steve Barbar, from LARES US, demonstrated the LARES system in detail. It not only enhances reverberation but also provides processing for digital playback. Mike Hedden played his trumpet to demonstrate some of the LARES settings. The room took on a completely different acoustical signature with each setting change. There are a number of digital audio mixers located throughout the campus as well as more than 100 channels of wireless in ear or wireless microphone systems in use daily.
The tour complimented Syn-Aud-Con Digital nicely. The seminar is taught by a tag team consisting of Pat
Brown and Steve Macatee. Brad Benn of Crown International, enhanced the seminar by lecturing on the third day and was a tremendous resource throughout. The trio made a wonderful team with their diverse backgrounds, experience, and personalities. They were able to present the complicated topic of digital audio in a concise and informative way.
