We are pleased to announce the official release of the Common Loudspeaker File Format. The CLF is the result of a collaborative effort by individuals recognizing the need for a platform-independent loudspeaker data format that can be used as a specification sheet as well as by prediction software.
The freeware CLF Viewer can be used to review loudspeaker data independently from a specific prediction platform. It has undergone many enhancements since our overview of it in the Winter Newsletter. The current viewer can be downloaded from the website below.
In addition to providing a common file format, the CLF group has spent considerable time reviewing and clarifying loudspeaker specifications. Support documents and background information on the methods used are available on the website. Each specification has been rigorously considered, and a number of practical and meaningful refinements and clarifications have been implemented.
The CLF provides a significant clarification in loudspeaker data presentation. It is intended to serve system designers until a Standard is finalized, and beyond. We urge manufacturers and end users alike to support the CLF by requesting and providing data in CLF format. pb
